As a social psychologist and a social identity theorist, I conduct research that investigates the complex interplay between human behaviour and digital technology. My work investigates the motivations behind individuals' mobilization for action, examining processes like polarization and radicalization. Through collaboration with partners in other academic fields and areas of practice, my research incorporates an understanding of new and emerging digital technologies, such as AI, and emphasises the advantages as well as risks and harms of digital engagement. Therefore, as a former Chief Editor of the British Journal of Social Psychology and through my Directorship of the Bath Institute for Digital Security and Behaviour, I am well-positioned to advance innovative research in security and defence. My research seeks to deepen our understanding of group dynamics, aiming to provide actionable insights into social behaviour that are vital for navigating today’s digital landscape.
