Creating a safer, more secure digital world by putting people at the heart of digital security

The purpose of the Institute is to solve global security challenges through world-leading, interdisciplinary, socio-technical research.  We take a “whole of society” approach, with a community of  51 experts in behavioural and social science aspects of digital security (including 21 academic staff, 7 postdoctoral researchers, and 23 postgraduate research students). We have a suite of labs in which we can conduct cutting edge research that aims to help make the UK a more innovative, safe, secure, and resilient digital society, to develop the next generation of leaders in digital security and behaviour, and to help advance the UK as a global leader in this domain.

Group Member Testimonial
"This group is enriching as it connects like-minded researchers and provides opportunities for feedback. Members can present their work, receive feedback, and offer support to others. Laura expanded the group by inviting staff and students from other departments, promoting collaboration across disciplines through a knowledge exchange and enabling us to gain diverse perspectives on research. For example, the expertise and experiences of other group members has helped to develop and enhance my understanding of novel research methods. By bringing together a variety of academics and students, Digital Lives has provided opportunities to build interdisciplinary networks across the University and encourages us to explore new avenues for research."
